About

Mel got her start in the arts oil painting with her grandfather. As a teen, she was regularly inspired by the artwork found in classic fairytales and children's literature and expressed this through her own political cartoon column in the local newspaper. When she left high school, Mel studied film photography and silkscreening at Harvard. There, she became increasingly curious in new forms of art making that combined photography and painting to evoke a sense of imagination and surrealism. Mel's paintings seek to transport people to new, colorful and extraordinary worlds, bring a photograph to life with added texture and color. Her fine art has been installed in locations in South Beach, Washington DC, New York, and San Francisco. Later in her career, Mel moved much of her analog doodling practice to digital tools. Self-taught, Mel's illustrations feature a combination of ornamental, whimsical, and nostalgic hand drawings. Mel takes on select wedding and event projects, and her illustration and design work can be seen across the Oh My Millie brand, as Mel is the Creative Director and Co-Founder.  When Mel is not painting or designing, she loves to make films and content more broadly. Her latest film project was produced with Darren Aronofsky and the New York Times (SOME KIND OF HEAVEN).  If interested in discussing a specific piece, a collaboration or custom project, please get in touch.
